It seems that in following links from another web page, which advertised "complimentary ring tones" for my cell phone, that i was led to the sign-up page for flycell's service which provided the absolute minimum of legalese to insure that once i (mistakenly) signed up for what i thought was a free download. I would be billed $9.99 for the first month. It was explained that i could cancel at any time. It was not explained that there was no way to seek financial redress (ie. Cant get your money back).
Through usacomplaints.com i found others who have fallen into this same situation. I called the number that this previously ripped off individual provided (dont know how he got that number as i was unable to locate it). Calling the number (212-400-1212) proved however not to be helpful as first Ulysses (no last name offered or provided)@ext. 439 then Jed Daily @ext. 422 proceeded to explain that perhaps a mistake was made. But it was MY mistake and my money could not and would not be returned to me even though i did not use the service. Had no desire to use the service when i realized that it was not "free" and canceled the service without using it within minutes of realizing that i was being charged.
I explained the situation. I was told that this was too bad. I said i would write this letter and i was told to "go ahead". This cannot possibly be considered 'best business practices' can it? If this is what a company has to do. Ie. Rip off $10 a person. One individual at a time, and then deny any responsibility. Well what can i say? If this was how i ran my business i would be out of business. And anyway, i am not sure i would be able to sleep at night. Anyway. If you are reading this it is probably already too late. Just know that you are not alone. Now its off to send more email to the better business bureau and the NY state attorney general.
