Recently Cingular Wireless sent me an "Pre-approved" letter for 2 cell phones for $49.99.
When I went to the Daphne branch to get the phones, I was told by a inexperienced sales person that I would have to pay more for the phones. Therefore, I left and called the 800 number on the mailing to get phones.
When I reached the operator, she informed me that the company would have to run a credit check first.
My problem with this is the mailing did not say "pre-selected" It said "pre-approved" which is a whole different ballgame. I personally did not want my credit run do to the fact that I am currently trying to get financing to buy a house.
If you ever receive a pre-approved credit card offer, you have already met the criteria based on their findings through the credit bureaus. People need to heed this warning because excessive credit checks reduce beacon scores and that will hurt you later.
In addition, three Cingular wireless employees at the 800 number including a supervisor did not care that their mailings were misleading and they wasted 2 hours of my time. Potential customers need to beware!!!
