Canceled service, Returned Equipment quickly - DISH Network trying to Charge me $263 for HD Receiver Ripoff

Yet another report of DISH Network attempting to steal money from former customers. They won't get a penny from me though as the credit card I used to pay for the service for the 13 months I subscribed expired at the same time I canceled my subscription. I was contacted by my credit card company and informed that Dish Network had attempted to charge my card $263. The customer service rep at my credit card company (Advanta-excellent customer service BTW) asked if I would like to allow the charge to go through. I emphatically told him NO!!! He said no problem, they won't get a penny from my card.

I called DISH and was told that I was being charged for a receiver that was not shipped back to them after I canceled their service. I know that this is not true because I was meticulous about making sure everything was packed according to the instructions supplied with the box they sent me. I wanted no problems later on from them concerning the returned receivers and LNBs.

After dealing with a CSR in India and finally having to beg to speak to a supervisor, I was able to speak to someone who spoke coherent english. I was told they received the standard definition receiver, but they did not receive the High Definition receiver. I told her that both receivers were in the same box and that if they received one receiver then they surely would have received the second one as they were both in the same box. She wouldn't budge-still insisted they did not receive the HD unit. BOTH units were in the same box!!!

I was shocked at the rudeness of the customer service reps at all levels. It's as if they are instructed to try to intimidate the customers who call with problems. It was totally opposite treatment when I first signed up with these guys.

Bottom line is they will never get another cent from me because of great timing with my credit card expiring at just the right time but, I'll probably take a hit on my credit report after they have the collection agency go after me. My credit card customer service rep told me that they have attempted to charge my card the $263 every day for the past week with no success.

Beginning now I'll be writing many letters and emails to Mr. Charles W. Ergen (DISH Network CEO), the Louisiana Attorney General's office, my state legislators, the BBB, my many contacts in the media - (local and national) - (I work in the NEWS media) and I believe they will be interested in this fraudulent activity on the part of DISH Network as it would make a great TV news story. It will also be necessary to contact the 3 credit reporting agencies to dispute the upcoming false report on me from DISH NETWORK.

I am shocked by the huge number of instances of abuse inflicted upon consumers nationwide by this company. Even more shocking is the fact that nothing is being done by any authorities (local or national) to stop this incredibly fraudulent activity.
