I signed up for T-mobile in February of at that time I was told because of my credit I would be put on their Smart Access plan, and have to pay a deposit of $75. I thought it was a reasonable amount at the time. A year later when I was switched to a normal plan, I enquired about when I would receive my deposit. I was then told that it was not a deposit but a fee.
I explained that I am a pre-law major at school, I read the fine print of every contract I enter in, and that I paid a deposit. The rep explained that lots of their smart access users think this fee is a deposit. I then spoke with a supervisor, which got me nowhere. I asked the supervisor to send me a document which shows that I acknowledged that $75 was a fee and not a deposit, she refused.
Finally, I filed complaints with the BBB (ignored by t-mobile), and the FCC (T-mobile lied to them and claimed that they informed me of their policy in writing this never happened). I did receive a call from someone at T-mobiles corporate office, but the messages left were garbled and there was no call back number. Additionally, these calls went to my voicemail some backdoor way as my phone never rang, though there was full signal.
I was told that the only way the FCC would take up my case is if I paid $180 and got a lawyer, which is ridiculous. This company should not be allowed to get away with this. I deal with the dropped calls, criminal billing (you will be charged anytime minutes for calls during you free time when you begin the call during you anytime minutes). Unfortunately, I signed a 2 year contract with them before I learned that I would not be getting my deposit back. Beware!
