Circuit City - Circuit City Advantage Extended Warranty Plan Ripped me off! Half dozen returns and never fixed my laptop ripoff

These people are truly unbelievable. They lie to you when they sell you the warranty. Then don't live up to the warranty they do provide. Here's my tale of woe with regard to Circuit City.

In August I bought a Compaq Presario 730US laptop from the Circuit City store in Kennewick, Washington. It was a pretty nice little laptop and I figured my college bound daughter would put it to good use. Well after the hard sell from the saleskid we purchased the warranty since he said it covered everything even the LCD screen which the manufacturer wouldn't cover and that if it had to be repaired 3 times they would replace it with a new one. Hey, how could you go wrong, worry free for two years, right?

Wrong! She didn't have that thing two months at school and already it was overheating, crashing, USB devices wouldn't work and the DVD-ROM wouldn't read any type of disk. Well she sent it in and they sent it back and it worked for about a month and the same things started happening. So at her next school break she sent it in again.

Same problems. They sent it back and it would work for a couple weeks then the same story. Finally I got involved and had it sent back and told them to fix the damn thing like the warranty stated they would. They kept it a few days longer that time. They replaced the MO, which they said was defective.

Got it back. Worked for a few weeks then started overheating and crashing and the DVD-ROM wouldn't work. Called up to bi*h about it and they said they didn't find anything wrong with the DVD-ROM. Well then why doesn't it work? They didn't know and said to send it back.

I told them I was getting real tired of shipping this thing back and forth and them not fixing the problems it had. The tech gave me a song and dance about how he would personally track it's repair. Ha! What a joke. Sent it back and they didn't do sh* to it. They just sent it back. It didn't work any better than when I sent it.

Finally, so my daughter could at least use the stupid thing I bought her an external CD-RW which would work occasionally if it wasn't in overheat mode after running a coule of hours. So I then got her one of those aluminum stands with the fans in it to help keep it cool to get her by until we could send it in again. It seemed to help a little although it would still hang up after a couple of hours of run time and the DVD-ROM never did work. A partial list of just MY issue numbers regarding the DVD-ROM drive follows, lest any of the bozos at Circuit City think I'm exaggerating they can look them up.

Issue # 4517331, and the tech was #4667
Issue # 4581458, and the tech was #4718
Issue # 4603676, and the tech was #4142
Issue # 4603676, and the tech was #4612
Issue # 4653179, and the tech was #4750
Issue # 4735454, and the tech was #4722

My daughter made her own list of calls and attempts to get this POS fixed. We finally gave up in March and resolved to get rid of this junker at the first opportunity.

Well after returning home for Christmas recently we went to Circuit City this Monday to check out their new ads for a Toshiba laptop that looked pretty good. So we went to the store in Kennewick, Wa. And asked if they had it, and sure enough they had 9 in stock. I then asked if we could see one. Get this - The punk told us they did have one on display because they needed to sell the displays before putting out the new models. So I asked him if we could see one before we purchased it but he wouldn't let us see one because they don't want to open the box! And that he had a very similar one on display.

Well the "display model" was a $2400 high end Toshiba and I was looking at buying the $849 one that was in the ad. So I asked him again if we could see if before we bought it and he said no and that they had all the information on the computer on line so customers can see what they are buying! I asked him if he was serious. He was.

We turned around and walked out right then and there and will never set foot in that store or any other Circuit City store for that matter, again. We went over to Best Buy and bought a Toshiba S-161 instead. Circuit City, you just lost a customer for life.
