I recently graduated from Kaplan Univeristy with a Masters In Education specifically in Teaching Literacy grades K-6. I was told by Kaplan that their University was accredited. And it is. But what they failed to tell me was that the courses they provided are UNAPPROVED. I found this out when I received a letter from the NYS DOE who told me just that. So all the classes I took @ $20,000 worth of student loans can not be used to complete my NYS Teacher's Certification. I now need to take all those courses over again. Never in a million years did I think that an accredited school could offer unapproved courses. Now I realize that is why they emphasize the accredidation aspect of their school.
Is there someone out there with the same problem? What can I do to ensure that this DOES NOT happen to another innocent person? Kaplan University MUST disclose this crucial information to its applicants. They can not get away with misleading the public and misrepresenting themselves.
I will do whatever it takes to make sure that my word is heard. If anyone can help please respond.
Thank you
