Ruins a special Thanksgiving vacation

Our family planned a special 4 day vacation over Thanksgiving because our oldest son would not be here for Christmas. We booked a 3 bedroom unit at Powhantan Plantation in Williamsburg through Sunterras' web site. Expecting an upscale accomodation (based on the price compared to other Williamsburg locations) we were looking forward to a memorable vacation. We got one, although not what we expected. After taking the day off from work to drive to Williamsburg from Delaware on Thanksgiving eve, spending 5.5 hours on the road in a storm, we arrived at the location. We registered at the front desk, were sent to the "sales" area to be given the opportunity to attend a free lunch (which we declined) and given the parking pass for our unit.

The unit was a dump, plain and simple. The attractive hot tub room off the master suite turned into a room with a leaking ceiling, rain dropping on the floor and hot tub, and a cesspool of a hot tub (scum floating on the water). Since we were going to cook our special Thanksgiving dinner there, we had some groceries. Good idea, except that the cabinets were so small, and filled with other stuff, that we had to leave all the groceries on the kitchen counter.By the way, the "kitchen" was about 4 x7, just right to prepare a gourmet meal.

Our overpriced unit had some luxury items, a dynamic 17" Zenith TV, with a VCR, in the Living Room. A fireplace that had a damper that banged against the inside of the flue all night, keeping us awake. The mold on the shower curtain was provided at no extra charge.

Our 4 day vacation turned into a 24 hour round trip, as we cancelled the balance of our stay (no one seemed concerned at the desk, it appears this happens a lot). We spent our special Thanksgiving day driving the 5.5 hours back to our home, with a fine Thanksgiving lunch at the restraunt on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. A vacation to remember.
