2 weeks ago I hesitantly agreed to hire Effectur to file a OIC on my behalf with the IRS I indicated that I was only interested in doing a offer in Compromise with the IRS due to my limited income and my disabled status. They asked for some financial information and after analyzing it told me that I would not have a problem qualifying for a OIC, now, I must say that he changed that once after I told him that my wife and I have been filing jointly and I told him that I was not interested in hiring Effectur at that point. He then asked me to hold on while he spoke to his manager and return a few minutes later to tell me that I did qualify because my wife files as a injured spouse (my wife does not owe the IRS), so I then agreed.
Once they received the initial payment and passed my file over to a preparer I noticed a subtle change in focus so I reiterated my reason for hiring Effectur, which was to do a OIC ONLY, after 2 weeks they then tells me that I dont qualify for a OIC because my wife refinanced the house in 2006 to pay down some of her debt (I am not on the mortgage). So I asked for my money back, I feel like I have been victimized by predatory practices or at the very least mislead and would like my money returned to me. Because I have never wavered in any of my conversations with Effectur or anyone else within Effectur in my desire to file an OIC ONLY with the IRS and that I do/did not have the money to waste due to my disability.
