In April I went on line and decided to get my so called "free" credit report. Before they would give my score I had to pay $1.00 for "processing costs." I thought that was odd since they advertise that it was a free service, but I gave them my debit card number figuring "It's only $1.00"
I never ordered any other services from them and didn't give it another thought. The other day I received a notice that I had some overdraft charges on my checking account (3 of them) and I was charged by my bank $22.00 for each one.
I had money in my account according to my records. When I asked for a copy of my debits I noticed that I had been charged 29.95 twice on the same day by this company I had no idea about. I pulled out all of my old bank statements and found that not only was that company charging me regularly since april of but 3 of their affliates also had my number and were billing my account for things I had never authorized. When I added the amounts it came to over $700.00!! I should have been paying to my statements, but I had never had a problem with the bank or my account so I had just been putting them in the file. I won't make that mistake again.
I contacted each of the companies that charged me and they said they would cancel my account. I bank at Wachovia and they have been very helpful to me. I cancelled my debit card, and have filed the disputes. However, they can only go back 2 months, so I am still out of a lot of money.
