Dishonestly took money from a single mom working hard to make it and promised grant money

After filling out an application for grants from an email, i recieved a phone call from a woman named Joan. When told i didnt have time at the moment to speak with her she continued to call and give me deadlines. Finally i discussed what the lady was telling me with my mother and thought it to be a good idea and with what little money i have to spare i agreed to give up 299$ and wait for an application in the mail.

Joan spoke with me as a friend, even explained everything over again to my mother, saying the least amount of money i would recieve is 5,000$ from different grants. I explained to her that i was a single mom and really couldnt afford to just throw away money. She stated that she too had a daughter and that her daughter stays away sometimes over the weekend and she gets stuck watching the dog so she too felt like a grandma sometimes and shared a few laughs with my mother and i she then said that she would ask the same questions for her daughter and assured us that this wasnt a scam and that she was just trying to get me started to recieve an application in the mail that would later be sent to a lawyer to help me recieve whatever sort of grants i was qualified for. This process took place on june 7th.

I recieved a confermation number and at one point in time achually spoke to someone who told me that my application had been sent out and would take 15-20 business days. After waiting patiently for 15-20 business days i began calling, always getting the message machine. I left numerous messages with my name and number, even threatened to call the police before i realised i was being scammed. I began to lose hope so i searched on the internet for nationwide consulting and found this site and all these complaints.

Im very upset and dissapointed in myself for trusting such a dishonest person with my money. I can barely afford to buy shoes for my 2 yr old son, explained that to this woman, and she still without an ounce of guilt took my money that could have went to bills, food, and clothing for my child and I.
