USBI - One Call Comm - Navicomm
Ripoff, fraudulant billing, calls to UK and Israel, internet access BULL

On my last Qwest phone bill there were charges of $7.67 to Israel and $45.97 to the UK both on Christmas night at close to midnight. We don't know anyone in either country, and the phone line they were billed to have no long distance service.

I called Qwest and they got me to Navicomm Ltd. Who agreed to drop the call to Israel and place a block on the line. They got me to One Call Comm, and I got the story about this having been a call to an "entertainment" internet site, that someone had to physically download and agree to the terms stated, etc. They did not want to take off the charges. She gave me the story about "check your computer's history."

Prior to getting this bill I had noted some porn on my laptop so had long ago cleared the history and cleaned up the registry so any "evidence" was long gone.

After the call to these companies I did ask the Qwest rep how this could have happenned since there is no long distance on that phone line. She explained that they can still make toll calls and whomever the carrier is at the time the calls are made is the one that it gets billed from. They can block the lines from making toll calls, but that would cost ME $2. Per month. EXCUSE ME, IT WOULD *COST* me to *NOT* make calls?

In any case, I did question eveone in my family about the stuff that was on my laptop and no one fessed up. So, after coming here today, looking for something completely different, I noted LOTS AND LOTS of complaints against USBI.

I decided to call them again. I got a very nice rep on the line, and she noted I had called previously and had the UK # blocked. I said yes I did, but was still very confused about how these calls were made. She went through her speil about how someone would have had to physically do yada yada yada, etc. Then I said that I had checked the computer history, and had thoroughly questioned my children, ages 9 and 14, and my husband and we just did not understand how this happenned. At that point she offered me a one time credit and gave me a confirmation #.

Another point that makes it clear to me that this could not have been done by any of my family is that the laptop I use from home is never ever ever plugged into the phone # they billed! But, no matter, I will have my credit.

Thanks to all who have written about this scam.
