My Mom Paula and myself William have received 2 Verizon phone bills that have a total of $82.00 worth of long distance calls made to a Diego Garcia. The company involved in this scam is called USBI. The first Bill had 2 calls on it made on January 31 at 11:22P.M. Made to Diego Garcia that lasted 7 minutes and the second on February 2 at 12:41A.M. Made to Diego Garcia that lasted 19 minutes. The total for these calls was $51.72. I transferred the phone service to my mom's name on February 27 and she had 4 calls on her phone bill made to Diego Garcia on February 12,14 and 2 calls were supposedly made on the 15th. The times of the calls were similar made between 11:00P.M. To 12:30A.M. We don't have long distance service, which is why we could not understand why Verizon was billing us for these calls. We also have Internet through NETZERO, but we never use the computer that late and NETZERO uses local Tampa phone numbers to connect.
I called Verizon Customer Service. They were not helpful and instructed me to contact USBI Customer Service at 1 888-476-8724. It took several minutes to get through to a USBI customer service rep. I asked him why we were being billed for these long distance calls. He immediately asked me if I had a computer. I answered that I did. I said that the computer had made the calls during those late times of the night. I told him that I use NETZERO and it uses local numbers to connect to the Internet. I am a computer tech and know that NETZERO uses only local numbers. He kept telling me to look at the Internet History and blaming it on that. That makes no sense. Websites do not dial long distance numbers. He did not offer to give me a credit and said that he could not help me. Unfortunately I can't remember his name. I did some research on USBI and found out that they are a scam, a rip off. Check out these links. There are comments from people that are as frustrated as I am. Please help me put a stop to this disgraceful company or at least please tell me what I can do so I don't have to pay for these calls THAT I DID NOT MAKE. Who knows who might be next of their scam list? We are a poor family and can't afford to be ripped off by this company. PLEASE HELP ME! Nobody else can or will. Feel free to call me at work or home.
