I received a call from a man named James Cooper representing US National Grant Services. He told me that I had received a grant in the amount of $8,000... He asked for my checking account information stating that the $8,000 would be deposited in my account on January 12, and that they would then deduct a $299.88 processing fee from the $8,000 grant to cover their expenses. Mr. Cooper told me that a representative from US National Grants would be calling me on January 12 to get my bank routing number information, and that the $299.88 would only be deducted after the $8,000 grant was deposited into my personal checking account.
I never received the call on January 12. However, on January 14, $299.88 was deducted from my personal checking account, but no deposit of $8,000 was made. I called the customer service number at 1-888-870-9313, only to discover that the number I had reached was simply an answering service utilized by US National Grant Services to screen calls, but that a grant application package had been mailed to my home. I was then told that I could apply for a grant once I received the application package. I have not received the package, and I am extremely upset at the misrepresentation of "James Cooper" in obtaining my account information, and deducting $299.88 from my personal checking account.
