Im writing to express to other wood be buyers to avoid purchasings a Kenmore Elite 20.6 cu. Ft. Upright Freezer (2809) due to the poor workmanship on the door lock which doesn't lock correctly, once you attempt to lock it, the bar that suppose to catch the door frame to hold together tight fails when pulling on the door handle it cause a gap for the cold air to escape which creates damage to the door frame by bending the door side. We had a Sears service call on this unit they advise us to return this unit for a new one the cost to repair would be over $ 500.00 just for the door, he also said that this is a defect. We went to our Sear store to see if the store modle (2809) would lock correctly, which it did the store manager was present.
I called the customer care center to exchange this unit however after being told they would bring one that would correctly inspecting at the warehouse by a manager which he said that was his job and was noted on the work order being the fourth attempt then they brought out another new one that had the same problem a defect unit the driver stated to me and his call center that they all do this that i should accept this unit as is and that I refused the delivery. When speaking to the customer care center specialist they offerd us not to exchange of this (2809) replacement when this is under the 30 day warranty clause for defects they only gave us the option of sending a repair tech or offer a defferent type of freezer unit.
Warning don't buy Sears brand name quality Kenmore Elite 20.6 cu, ft upright freezer (2809)
