Almost two years ago, we spent $240,000 on a new home. We were given a move in date and had expected all things to be completed on time. That move in date was moved twice forcing us to pay high rent at the apartment we were staying at. After the third move in date change, we stated that we are moving in regardless and they agreed to let us put most of our belongings into the garage since our extended lease on the apartment was up. The week prior to moving most of our stuff into the garage, we were told that the garage and basement would be power-washed and all the mud would be moved out. When we moved in, finally, the basement was never power-washed and to this day the floor still has areas with mud on it.
Our next biggest complaint is that it took the builders more than 6 months and a lot of harassing to finally put our yard in. We paid over $3,400 to a have nice yard installed as part of the home and when we first moved in it was one excuse after another. For six months we had a dirt field in the front and back of the house. After months of Atlantic Builders telling us they were going to put in the yards they finally did it; and a very poor job at that. The process was supposed to include leveling, grading, installing grass and treatment should it need it. The yard was never properly leveled, the grass is some kind of weird, Zoysia grass which never grows green, the sod that was laid down is so uneven, that my children can't play on it because they could trip in the holes or could sprain an ankle.
Worst of all, when we came home the same day the sod was installed, we actually had to go out in the yard and pull the sod off the rocks that they had laid the sod on top off. The grass was not even touching the ground in several spots.
After making several calls to the builder, we kept getting the run-around and were told that it's the contractors fault and they will come out to fix it soon. Well, almost a year later, when we have the one year walkthrough they again made note of the yard issue and stated that they have new contractors and will fix it. After 3 weeks of waiting, nothing happened. Its been over a year-and-a-half and still no yard installed correctly.in fact, this year our yard didn't even really turn green. Our neighbors are upset at the state of the yard, we paid for something we don't have, we have wasted money on water and maintenance of a yard that will have to be replaced, I'm out the interest on the money that I spent on a yard I never got, my relationship with my neighbors has been effected because we are waiting for the job to be done right and they hate looking at the yard, its unsafe for my kids to play in, we can't garden it until they fix it, and most of all they are still putting new yards of other homes as I write this.
