I bought a Kenmore Gas Water Heater Power Miser 6 on 3/29 (Sunday). I installed this unit myself which I am a Licensed General Contractor Commercial and have been in this business for 28 years. On April 26th the pilot light would not stay lit. I removed the pilot light assemby and the thermocoupler appeared to be bad. Called Sears Parts department and they sent me over to service department. Service wanted 99.00 to come check to see if part was bad. This unit was to carry a 6 year parts warranty. I told them I installed this unit myself and only needed the replacement part. Sears policy is if any part cost more then $50.00 they require you to pay for a service call. The part I needed sold on their website for $52.33 plus a super inflated shipping cost (10 times more then anyone else charges). I told them I know what part is bad and just what the warranty replacement. The Service Manager said there was nothing he could do! I went on the internet and looked for a possible manufacturer that made this unit for them. I found the exact part made by A.O. Smith waterheaters. The part with 2 day air shipment was less then what Sears wanted for just the part without shipping. I believe that if it were investigated by someone with enought power they would find a lot of repair parts just over the limit of $50.00 so they could force customers to pay the Service call fee's. Sears is going broke because they are overcharging for every single item or service they have and they suck at that as well! I fixed my problem in under 30 minutes and the warranty on this part should have been honored just as it would have been by any manufacturer in U.S. Except Sears!!!
