We contracted with a builder by the name of New Lineage Custom Homes (www.nlchomes.com) to build a home in Sorrellwood Park in McKinney, Texas. We put a significant check down for earnest money.
Now because of the economic times the builder has stopped working on the house. We have seen almost zero progress over the last 10 weeks. I have left dozens of messages on the phone, email, and in person and each time no response or someone else has to handle it. There is no end in sight. He told us he was getting a loan from an investor to complete the houses, however I drive by the homes on a daily basis and no workers working there from all I can tell.
The builder tells us he is going through difficult times financially and will build the house. Each week he tells us it will be next week that he will start. Always the same excuse. He says we can terminate the contract but we will lose the earnest money. He also has told us that once he finishes our home and the few others in development stages that he will NOT be building in the subdivision anymore. This means that of the approximate 125 lots (40-45 are done) we will be in an empty subdivision until another builder starts building. The other two builders have already left the area. So we will have 70-80 empty lots that will end up taking years to have completed.
B/C of all these issues we have started doing research. We have been told by various contractors that he is not paying their bills. We have found out from one home owner that they have a lien placed on their home from work that New Lineage Custom Homes should have paid the bill.in addition to several items that should have been fixed/under warranty are not being fixed.
We are filing a complaint from the BBB as well as contacting the attorney general to see what action can be taken. If you have any information that may help me, please post it so I can follow up and maybe get some resolution.
