We were steered toward building a modular home because of the horror stories we were told by friends that had stick built homes. The stories included the following:
1) contractors never show up on time.
2) takes longer to build than expected.
3) costs more to build at the end than expected.
4) the home under construction is exposed to the elements.
We then contacted a builder/contractor who informed us that the modular home company he deals with does not contract with the customer. The customer that wants to have a modular home built has to contract with the builder who in turn contracts with the modular home company. Our builder told us that he contracted with All American Homes in Milliken, Colorado.
We were retiring soon and decided to have the modular home built by All American Homes in Milliken, Colorado. Our builder showed us information on All American Homes and we looked at there Web Site. All American Homes web site stated some of the following information.
1) building modular is faster than a stick built house.
2) we can build you house usually within 3 weeks after receiving the deposit.
3) building modular is better because the unfinished house is not exposed to the elements.
We then gave our builder/contractor a forty four thousand dollar deposit in April. The builder/contractor then deposited our money into the account of All American Homes in April. We were told by our builder/contractor that the home would be started within the next few weeks and would be built by the end of May. The home would then be delivered to our home site/land shortly after that. We were expecting to be in our house by July 4th, 1012.
We contacted our builder/contractor in May to find out the progress of the building of our house. The builder/contractor informed us that he would check on the status. A few weeks later our builder/contractor informed us that he had some bad news for us. The bad news was the following: our builder/contractor was now informed by All American Homes that they had laid off much of there work force in the winter because business had been slow.in April they had been slammed with a bunch of new home orders and had not hired back the staff to properly build the new homes as promised.
We were devastated and upset that All American Homes had not informed the builder/contractor or us, the customer, of this delay when our home was ordered. There web site promises homes built fast and usually within three weeks of receiving a deposit. Our builder/contractor was now being told by All American Homes that our house would be delayed by four to six weeks which would bring the delivery date of the home to the middle of July.
We informed our builder/contractor that we had only rented a house to live in until the last of July. Our builder/contractor assured us that All American Homes had now promised to deliver our house on time and that we had nothing to worry about.
The middle of July came and went and All American Homes had not delivered. Again they delayed delivery of the home that was promised. We kept calling and leaving messages with All American Homes to please call us and give us some information about our home. We also had to arrange for a place to live being that our lease was up at the end of July.
It should be noted that All American Homes never returned our phone calls. (A side note, a general manager of All American Homes later informed us that since the contract to build our home was not with us, they felt like they did not have to return our phone calls). How ridiculous this response was. They had forty four thousand dollars of our money deposited into there account and they use the excuse that the contract is with the builder/contractor not us. You call this customer service.!!!
Luckily we were able to extend our rental/lease on a week to week basis and our home was finally delivered August 15th. This was only three months late.
We will never recommend All American Homes of Milliken Colorado because of the lack of customer service, the delayed building of our home, the undue stress and anxiety that this experience caused was tremendous. Buyer beware.!!!
