I hired Jon Schirripa aka Angels Painting and Wallcovering to repaint my kitchen cabinets. Jon was referred by another painter who has since apologized profusely for the referral.
Here is what happened: Jon showed up late to our house. Jon attempted to spray over the existing paint on the cabinets in my kitchen. Jon did no preparation work before he commenced spraying, and Jon did not properly mask the areas that were not to be sprayed. The result was: (a) Jon got paint all over surrounding trim, walls, ceiling, floors, and appliances; (b) Jon oversprayed the interior and exterior of the cabinets, leading to large sags, drips, and runs on every surface.
My wife, to her chagrin, did not inspect the paint job until after she paid Jon his full fee in cash. When she called him afterwords, he first denied the problem and then agreed to come the next day to inspect the damage. He never came.
I tried several times to reach Jon after that. I managed to reach him and he committed to redo the whole job for no additional fee. To his credit, Jon actually came to my house two times to sand and do additional prep before repainting. But that was the last I ever saw of him.
After he completed the prep he made numerous promises that he would purchase fresh paint and then return to our house to complete the paint job. I phone him repeatedly for several weeks urging him to complete the work. He never came and eventually he completely stopped answering my calls.
In the end, I paid someone else to repaint the cabinets. Jon had charged my $550 to do the work the first time. It cost me nearly $800 to have someone else go back and fix all the things he screwed up.
After the fact I made some inquiries with the state of Idaho and I discovered that Jon's business materials are fraudulent. On his business card he claims to be "licensed, bonded, and insured." In fact, Idaho does NOT license painters; however, the state does require them to register as contractors.in any even, Jon had never registered with the state and, as a matter of Idaho law, is guilty of deceptive trade practices for claiming to be licensed.
