I hired Lavender Pride Painting, a partnership in Riverside CA of two lesbian women, to spray paint my kitchen cabinets. I wanted a very smooth coverage that would look nice. I wanted a professional job. The estimator partner bid $1485 and said they do great work. My other bids were much lower ($330 and $780) I said I would have them do it because they sprayed and I wanted a really nice paint job. They hire unlicensed painters to do the work, but they are well-trained and can do a very smooth finish. They wrote down the basics of the project.
The paint job is horrible. The painter that did my job was one partner's brother. He rushed it and cobbed it sooo bad. He did not fill anything, he did not lightly sand the wood before painting, he drippeed globs of paint on cupboards and didn't remove them. He applied 3 coats of paint in 2 days. There are sags across the outside of 6 cabinets. 6 huges sags inside some cabinets. There are many drips. There are also many holidays and places were the paint separated and the wood shows through, He 'touched up' places where the painte didn't cover while the spray finish was half dried with a ROLLER. This produced stipples. They were very buligerent and threatening when I expressed my displeasure with the work. I asked them to return the next day to see if it looked better. If not, they would need to fix it.
They would not come back the next day to check their work. I hadn't paid them the remainder of their contract because It was NOT finished. They filed a lien against my property the next day instead. I got 6 contractors to bid a repair and found out how it needed to be repaired. I called Lavender Pride to tell them what needed to be done. They denied that it needed to be sanded back to fix it as the other contractors said they would have to do to make it nice. They even denied the sags were their fault. They did not come to look at it until April 19, after their bonding company encouraged them to. Still they would not agree to stripit back to the wood and would not tell me what they would do except "fix it" They were
The Contractors License board has ruled it would cost about $1000 to repair this work to a minimal standard.
I have taken this to small claims court twice and lost. I was ordered to pay them $800 instead of the $1485 at 0% interest. I don't understand how this could be especially with the License board report saying it is such a bad job. Of course they lied in court about many things. But still, how could this be possible? Was there some technicallity in the contract that made the court decide against me even though they could see what a horrible job it was? Why would I owe $800 when they caused $1000 damage?
What is left to do to get revenge. The License Board is fining them and has recorded a workmanship report. But these women are liars, cheaters and should be run out of business.
I don't think they do this to everyone. Perhaps they just paint for other lesbians? Is this something they did to me because I am straight? One partner said she had a '6th sense about me' that said I was going to cause trouble. Who wouldn't cause trouble over a job like this? It is not a 6th sense, it is common sense.
