Complaint / Review
Barr Brothers Moving Company
Westchester, NY based Moving Company Con Men

These two brothers who have a scam artist moving company named "Barr Brothers" operate a con-man operation.
They assured us that our expensive antiques would be properly packed and taken care of and that our additional expensive, high quality furniture would be well taken care of in the move.

They also bad mouthed all other moving companies that they knew we were getting quotes from. This should have been my first clue that something was amiss with these guys.

Always know that when the merchant tries to badmouth its competition, then run the other way! They are no good themselves, and are trying to seduce you psychologically into abandoning the competition [which is clearly better than them]. This is a high-pressure sales tactic to get the consumer to give in and places doubt in your mind to NOT use the competition. Beware of this.

They NEVER wrapped one piece of furniture. Every antique was damaged, and all of our fine wood furniture was damaged.

When confronted about the damages they caused, the anger and hostility began. The one brother who was present at the move had to admit that there were damages, but still wanted a check from us for payment. He became impatient with us when we noticed that some furniture had pieces missing [broken off].

He acted like he wanted to get out of there in a hurry and told us his brother would call us in a few days... He just wanted his check and to leave.

The behavior was hostile, and becoming increasingly agitated.

He did not want to talk about it any further, and then resorted to the "shell game" of passing the buck to his brother, who was in cahoots to scam the unknowing homeowner.

When I finally got ahold of the brother a few days later, the confrontation on the phone was unpleasant and he denied knowing anything about the damages. So, now we have denial of any wrongdoing along with the terrifying realization that this company did not give a damn about us or our furniture.

I told this liar that I was going to cancel our check because he was in violation of the fair business act and that he was clearly not ethical. I additionally told him that I wanted to know who his moving insurance carrier was, as I was entitled to make a claim.

He did not want to give me this information, and refused to give out such information.

I cancelled the check and sent a letter telling them that they were wrong in not taking responsibility and now I was facing the harrowing task of finding an antiques repair organization AND the large expense to repair all these items.

A few months later, we get a "small claims court" notice in the mail for DOUBLE the amount of the moving bill! And without our knowledge, they had illegally taken the small claims court NOTICE and sent it to the THREE CREDIT AGENCIES to pass it off as a "Judgement" against us!

We were unaware of this violation when we went to court against them. We got that surprise a few months later, when we went to check our credit reports. It was unthinkable how a bogus document could be so easily passed off as fake judgement.

These guys are criminals to the lowest order. They stoop as low as any criminal can possibly stoop to in order to hurt anyone.

The judge in court yelled at them as to why they were suing people for Double their moving bill, and they stammered to find an answer. Clearly, they wanted to make some money off of the horrible problems that they created.

We finally gave the judge all of our receipts for repairing the items damaged. We agreed to deduct our total repair bill from their moving bill. They were paid only $250 for a move that cost a few thousand.

The repairs to our furniture were ongoing and the ordeal was emotionally draining and shocking all at once.

Buyer Beware. Do not trust your home move to just anyone who walks through your door with a salesman/con man story.

Do your homework, and even then, know the signs of a bad guy.
