I am currently purchasing a home from K. Hovnanian homebuilders. My husband and I went on contract in September. At the time we were told that our home would be finished by January 15, my husband and I laughed! This isn't the first time we have bought a brand new home and knew not to expect the home to be finished by this date. The salesperson assured us that the home will be done. Of course we did not beleive them and were not suprised when our home was delayed.
Of course, our home still is not done. The really disturbing part is that the salespeople keep telling us that our home will close on Friday, and then they call on Friday and tell us it will be next Friday. They have done this 6 times now. Every time there is a new excuse as to why the house can not close. The walkthrough has been rescheduled once already. The home is done and ready for the walkthrough, some other issues are holding up the close of escrow.
This is not an unusual occurance. The disturbing occurance happened the other day. My husband called Matthew, the salesperson in the office, to ask about the progress. He asked my husband to hold on, he set the phone on the desk and acted like he was calling someone, he was saying "this house needs to be done, Mr. (our last name) is very upset, I want this done..." It was so fake, you could just tell that he was trying to appease us.
I talked to Matthew yesterday, he told me that the house was held up because the city had yet to inspect it and that they would be out on the 18th to do the inspection (the 18th is a Saturday, do city workers inspect homes on Saturday?) He said that the house would not be ready until the first of April, I was upset, so to appease me, he told me that the home would close on the 18th.
Confused? Well so am I. Not only are we being lied to, but we are being treated like absolute morons. If the house isn't going to close until the 1st, SAY SO!
The worst part is that there are several homes in the neighborhood being built by the same builder that have already closed, they were SLABS on the day our home was supposed to close. I am sure that they owe several sub contractors money and can't get a lein release for my phase. Some poor s.O.B. Has probably been waiting months for his money.
I just thought I would let any potential buyer know that they can expect. If your going to buy a new home, put on your dunce hat and wear your kick me sign and don't forget to bend over!
