On the afternoon of December 22 I contacted Durden Appraisal Company to do an Appraisal for a house in his area. Duke Durden was my only contact and he assured me he was able to get the appraisal done and back to me by the 27th of December (which is the reason I went with his company to begin with) with the condition that I send him a check for $350 up front, being that we've never done business with one another before. The check was sent via UPS that same day. On the 23rd of December he visited the borrowers' home and completed the inspection, as far as all parties were concerned the transaction was moving smoothly. When December 27th came and went I began to call Mr. Durden in reference to the appraisal we agreed upon. Mr. Durden remained uncontactable and the main number for his business was disconnected, however the check was received by him and cashed. I was forced to get an appraisal done by another company and sacrifice a significant portion of my revenue for the Refinance he was assisting with in order to retain the client and compensate for the inaptness displayed by Durden Appraisal Company. On Janurary 10th I finally received an email from Mr. Durden (after over 2 weeks of phone calls, voicemails, and emails sent to Durden Appraisal / Duke Durden) in which he stated he had been sick with "the flu". When I responded to him requesting the $350 back for a job that was never completed, he failed to reply and continued to avoid my telephone calls. Ample opportunity was given to Mr. Durden / Durden Appraisal to rectify the situation and avoid having a formal complaint filed, but I was unfortunately left with no other means of recourse. Fully documented records have been kept of all correspondences and transactions.
