We called Empire Today for new whole carpeting as they advertise "next day installation". We both travel for work, so this sounded convenient for us. Local sales rep Paul Jones comes over, we look at samples and choose our carpeting. We ask for a day or so to decide.
We are both out of town, so we call the main number at Empire and ask to get in touch with the rep as we don't have his business card with us. She can't give us his number due to "security reasons" and she won't contact him either. But not to worry as we are scheduled for Friday, 4/15/05 installation.
How can this be as we haven't said OK to anybody.
So we both get back home, call Paul Jones, he says "no way do you get carpet on 4/15, I have to have a contract. So much for next day installation.
He gets his contract, and we stupidly paid for all.installation date is 4/16/05. OK, we think.
On that day, two young middle eastern kids in unmarked van show up to install. Contract reads "empire will move furniture". Kids say they don't get paid to do that. They grudgingly agree to help move things. They roll brand new carpet out on my driveway to cut it. No plastic underneath or anything.
Half the job is done and kids tell us there is not enough carpet to finish the rest of the rooms. They leave. We contact Paul Jones who's answer to this problem is he NEVER makes mistakes measuring. How is this a solution to the problem? So now he says the rest of our carpet is in Chicago and a crew will be at our home next Sat 4/23/05 to finish but gives us no time that installers will arrive. Again, what happened to "next day Installation so you can enjoy your carpet right away"
On 4/22 we call this warehouse at Monroeville, PA to ask what time and are told crew is leaving warehouse at 8am. Needless to say, nobody shows up. We call warehouse at 11am, are told crew called off sick, they are calling someone off another job and they are loading carpet at 2pm, should be here by 4pm. Again no show.
We call Empire's 800 number, this person just keeps saying "Do you want to make an appointment" but finally she said I'll connect you with someone and routes the call back to the Monroeville, PA warehouse. And now neither the warehouse or the sales rep will answer their phone or return our messages.
They have stolen our money and we are going to take any and all actions necessary to get it back. People, DO NOT use this company.
