Mis-Information on HP Support website: Installing the Printer with an Alternate Driver in Windows 7 for a USB Cable Connection - Deskjet 6122

At the end of this description is an HP website. On that page it lists 4 various steps to take to install the required software (drivers) to enable an HP printer to function.

None of the steps have worked.

After trying them I tried the manual procedure for installing a printer and looked through the long list of printers which have their drivers included in Windows Home Premium 7 and noticed that my printer is not listed hence the need to seek out the drivers elsewhere.

One of the steps, on the HP support page, is to use the Windows 7 Update feature but that has not offered the drivers for my printer even though it has been plugged in all the time and is listed in the Devices and Printers section of Windows 7 as being Unspecified. Windows 7 does recognise my printer as it gives the name of it but that is as far as it can go without the drivers.

The support webpage does suggest using a driver for a different HP printer but that also is not available to be downloaded from HP’s Drivers section and is also not included in Windows 7.

My printer is the Deskjet 6122 and the suggested alternative driver is Deskjet 990c *
* Available only through Windows Update. (Not correct)
