Good day, I am a user of a Compaq precario CQ50 104NR (P/N: FE875UA) which I bought about 3 years ago. This notebook has been a boon to for the past three years, most notably within the first 1 and a half years of its use. However, I now find myself exceedingly upset with this product, because after just 3 years, it is no longer functional and all my attempts to recover any of its software functions have been blocked by the compounding hardware issues. Given the number of issues which my notebook now has, one would think that i took very poor care of it. Nothing could be further from the truth. The following is a list of the issues that have occured in near sequential order i which it occured. 1) The card reader has always been tempermental and only workede when it wanted to
2) the cord needed replacing since it frayed at the junction where it met the box (i do not know its proper name). This occured despite meticulously wrapping it in such a way that this junction never bent.
3) The notebook heated up at a rapid rate, leading it to begin cutting off at the drop of a hat. I was told by a reputable sales and repair service that the issue was with the fan so i requested that to be fixed.
4) The screen would rapidly move up and down as if jumping or flickering. I do not know the cause of this and upon searching online, i came to the conclusion that the issue was with some cord or the other coming lose.
5) The screen would spontaneously dim and then brighten to its original brightness. When this occur, the notebook would stall. I simply thought that this was simply due to the need to change the battery. However, a later software issue which lead me have the need to recover my system leads me to the my final issue.
6) When I attempted to recover my laptop after experiencing yet another "blue screen of death" which left my notebook incapable to move past the loading faze of the boot sequence, I recieved a message telling me that it needed to be plugged in to the AC supply for this kind of operation. This confused me since it was already plugged in to the AC supply. So, finding this strange, I took special note of the LED with the electricity bolt on top of it and I noticed that it was not lighting despite being plugged in.
What I want to know is, what do I do now, because this is obviously beyond the scope of any, do-it-yourself software based repair. I am highly dissapointed and upset about this series of failures which, happened within rapid succession of each other. Can I trade it in? Can i get some kind of useful and long term advice and/or support because as a University student, i lead a very busy and hectic lifestyle and with the new semester about to begin within a few weeks, I am in need of my notebook since it forms an integral part of that hectic and busy lifestyle. I do not know if they are already gone, but I think i have lost quite a number - if not all - of my important documents and files such as notes and soft copy text books. This does not begin to mention the personal things like my email and music.
So, I am practicaly begging here, please help, because, this has left a bad taste in my mouth towards what i thought was a very reliable brand. If a person were to ask me i would not advise them to purchase a hp note book.
