On or about 8/24/04 I received a postcard from Champion Cadillac Chevrolet, an auto dealership it offered me some $20,000 in credit, and it also included a scratchier type chance to win a gift. I called the number to register as directed on the postcard. I then scratched off the coating and found out I won a Gateway computer. At this point I called the dealership and explained what happened and I was transferred to a salesman named Jay. We set up an appointment to meet on Sat. 8/28/04 at about 10:00 A.M. When I arrived I presented the postcard to Jay, and I was informed that the computers were not in at this time. Jay also strongly suggested I take a test drive in one of the trucks. Jay also was quite reluctant to return the postcard to me, but at my insistence he did return it. I was told to check back in a couple of days and check on the computer, which I did.
After calling back several times I went thru the whole thing again, and the girl transferred me to the customer relations person who is named Merlisa. She also told me the computers were not in at this time and she would call me within a couple of weeks. So I waited no calls so I called her and she put me in touch with the sales manager.
I talked to Carl and his assistant. I was informed that they do not have the computers in, and never did. All they were giving away was a certificate that needed to be redeemed thru another company and the dealership did not even have the certificates to give out. I was also informed at this time that I would have to pay the shipping, taxes, and for internet service for 3 years all up-front prior to receiving a computer they do not have and cannot get. On the face of their postcard it clearly states come over to the dealership and claim your prize, it said nothing about Certificates, shipping, taxes, or paying for 3 years of Internet service in advance.
Clearly misleading, and fraudulent in its intention!
