Complaint / Review
American Classic Truck Parts
Consumer Fraud, unauthorized Credit Card charges, skimming 50% restock fee on defective part return, false statements in email

I had previously ordered vehicle parts from this company via internet credit card. No problems there. They were selling a mix of NOS (new old stock) and aftermarket, and the especially NOS were excellent parts except the ones mangled in shipping they refused to make right.

On 10/18 They ordered for me me a part known as a "door panel" (sent from another company), the panel was poor quality, different design than the original and had sharp edges which made it hazardous to handle. I contacted Am. Classic (AC) who authorized a return to the supplier, I sent the panel back, and in an Email Jan 04, James promised a refund.

They did not tell me the refund amount. No invoice.

The charges for the door panel were $190 plus shipping on Invoice % part no. DPA-5420.

On 27 Jan, I sent this to AC (quote from email):

" ORder, please, since there should be a credit posted, I thought Id check with you before ordering on line:

7_ (truck) 4WD PS PB MT AC

(1) BR0116 PB master cylinder
(1) BR0391 MC boot
(1) BR0819 PB booster (has bracket and about 11 inches)
(1) PS-45 PS pump seal kit
(1) PS-46 PS gearbox seal kit (is that for this truck?)

That should keep me greasy for a while... It the credit doesnt cover it, *call and we can put the balance on CC*"
(stars added for emphasis - I directed them to CALL ME, they did not)

James applied a credit for LESS than the cost of the returned door panel of $112 (that's almost a 50% reduction on a DEFECTIVE part) and without my consent or knowledge had KEPT THE CREDIT CARD NUMBER AND CVV CODE on file (I never allow that from any merchant) and charged, WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE an amount of $76.54.

I never allow it, so that this cant happen.

I contacted James,

1.) he LIED about the Email
2.) LIED about calling me, there were NO calls from them on my phone
3.) they refused to stop the shipment thru UPS considering they can do that on-line
4.) holding the previous refund (which they agreed they owe me) hostage contingent on return of the package (they are hoping an order I DID NOT AUTHORIZE gets lost and they intend to keep the money).

JAmes "sent an invoice for my review" AFTER charging the card, and after doing so where there should have been enough refund from the returned part to cover the new parts (Id made sure the cost of the new parts was LESS than the amount that should have been refunded)

James ordered a kit before I had a chance to verify that it was the right one for the vehicle.

That, along with their "its all about us" attitude thats clear from their last email where they ran off and hid, proves they are not fit to do business with.

Never again, theve lost THOUSANDS of dollars in parts purchases as a result of this.

Notice in the Emails:

*they refused to disclose the refund amount on a DEFECTIVE item (normal to charge up to 20% on a return and none on defect) they charged almost 50%
*sent invoice and charged card before I had a chance to see the invoice
*orderd a part that I had asked about APPLICATION on before I had a chance to verify that it fit (and they didnt send any useful info, BTW)
*ignored my CLEAR statement to CALL ME, charged the card.
*did not have my permission to keep the CC number but did it anyway (why? So they can make fraudulent charges LATER..)
* LIED about not understanding the email
*shipped the order and refused to go online UPS and recall it (later they apparently have)
* made the refund of money I was due on a DEFECTIVE part contingent on getting this shipment back (two different issues)
* attacked me, off topic, about ME not understanding THEIR business?

The topic is consumer fraud, not their "business" in attempting to CONCEAL FRAUD.

Whats apparent from the fact teh parts Ive bought are marked having come from other GM dealers, and the fact the door panel came from another company in Nevada (I sent it back to a NV address) and their hiding behind a PO box makes me think they are not a legitimate business in TX.

The Attorney Generals complaint will find that out.

Mr.

I am not going to go through a back-and-forth with you as to what happened. You do not appreciate our side of the situation and what we did for you on the credit of the door panels so it is fine that we close our business relationship.

I will take care of the appropriate refunds Refuse the UPS shipment and I will refund the money upon receipt here. I will send the other credit to your card today as a courtesy before receiving back the parts we sent you.

Good day,

American Classic

YOU ARE A LIAR.
This is what I wrote, its down below in the email:

". It the credit doesnt cover it, call and we can put the balance on CC"

You did not call, DO NOT lie to me about calling, there are no missed calls on my phone

YOU DO NOT have my permission to use this card without my knowledge.

YOU DO NOT have permission to KEEP the number

Cancel the order
Refund the credited amount

LAST ORDER. No more.

ESPECIALLY since you ve not credited the full amount of the door panel, which was about $200

Mr. C

I am sorry if I misunderstood your email. You said to put the difference on credit card so that is what I followed. I tried calling but the call did not go through so I sent the parts out to give you the parts as quickly as possible.

We shipped out the following items yesterday:

(1) BR0116 PB master cylinder
(1) BR0391 MC boot
(1) BR0819 PB booster (has bracket and about 11 inches)
(1) PS-45 PS pump seal kit

And (1) PS-46 PS gearbox seal kit is on backorder so the $6 for it was not charged. I also sent you further information on this part for your review in case there is a problem with it not working for your truck.

A total of $76.54 was charged yesterday and I am attaching the invoice for your review.

The credit was $112 as previously discussed and was applied to the order.

If this is a problem, let me know and I will take care of it on this end.

Sincerely,

James
