Planet Van Lines, Inc
Costly Relocation Scam

What Planet Van Lines did to my family and I can only be considered as financial and emotional rape. First, they started off by quoting my move from the east coast to TX at around $4,700, which they derived from the detailed inventory list I created for my town home. When the movers showed up three hours late, it was in a truck that would only fit items from a single home or maybe a couple small apartments. Written in marker on the side of the truck was a general company name along the lines of "New York Movers." The driver explained that they was not affiliated with PVL, and also would have to use the entire truck for my things. So the new price was $9,000. After an additional two hours of arguing with PVL over the phone and the moving company, the price was reduced to $7,000—$2300 over my quoted price. During these two hours, PVL told us repeatedly to handle the situation with the movers ourselves, and that there was nothing they could do. "A quote is only a quote, " we heard over and over, despite the fact that they knew of everything I needed moved. Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do because we had to drive cross-country and were on a tight time schedule.

Frustrated over the reduction in price, the NY movers man-handled everything we owned. They threw our things carelessly on the truck, put heavy duty packing tape on wood furniture, left 50% of fragiles unpadded and/or unassembled, and left trash laying around. One mover broke a bookshelf in front of me, and immediately claimed it was already like that. Also, while shooving my brand new sofa set through the front door, they took the door frame AND screen door handle along with it. But guess what? It was already like that! To top it all off, they requested a tip.

Over a week later, an old, eighteen-wheeled, "Doritos" truck with one wheel almost off, pulled up at my new location in TX demanding payment up front and advising us that they were also not affiliated with PVL. Once we saw our things packed tightly in the truck to the point where they began tumbling in the street when the truck door was opened, we refused to pay until we saw the condition of everything. The lead mover told us if we wanted our things we had to pay upfront. So, we watched in horror as our expensive things came crashing down and was pulled from the truck. Everything we owned looked like junk. 80% of our things had water damage, our son's twin mattress had no wrapping on it, things were literally broken in pieces, the movers smashed a huge hole in a wall while forcing our coach through a door, other walls were scratched badly, the lead mover reprimanded his helper whenever he stopped to explain or apologize for anything, and they were both bringing in things that we had to tell them belonged to someone else. The lead mover also told us that the reason our $500 coffee table was laying in pieces was because it was cheap. Finally, unpacking all of our things, we realized that numerous things were missing, and some things, like our power drill, had been used while in transit.

Thanks to Planet Van Lines, my family and I were left with additional emotional and financial turmoil on top of an already stressful move cross country. When we demanded our damaged things be replaced, they quickly pointed out their policy to replace. 60 cents for each pound, which we could only get after going through more stress and spending. At that point we were just too tired to do anything. That is how they get away with their scams. I hope everyone involved burns in Hell or whatever doomed place they believe in. Stay away from this "company."
