I'm a business man. I work as a management and IT consultant for a company. I travel all over the country. I recently rented a car from Avis at the Atlanta airport. I returned the car clean, in the same or better condition than it was in when I rented it. I drove it on the highway/freeway only.
ONE month after my rental, I received a letter in the mail stating a "mysterious oder" was noticed in the car, and that I was going to be charged a $75 cleaning fee. Sure enough, my credit card was charged! I contacted the Atlanta "manager" (Eddie Choice")... He didn't respond for a week... To calls, to emails, nothing. He was clearly avoiding any confrontation. I finally called the Avis "customer complaint" line (after getting disconnected three times... I finally reached someone!). I shared my experience... They kept me on the phone and called Eddie Choice at the Atlanta Airport. Eddie mysteriously appeared, seemingly out of nowhere now... Amazing how getting his own company on his little tail got some action from him... That said, he pulled the paperwork and stated an oder was in the car after my rental... Yet had nothing further to say about it. I was told they couldn't reverse the charge, but that they might be able to send me a coupon for a future rental.
I was PISSED off... Why on earth would I ever rent from the morons again? They provided NO PROOF of any cleaning having been done in the vehicle... Nothing. And then, a FULL month after my rental, they charge me $75 without any evidence or backup documentation. A complete SCAM! Needless to say, I cancelled my "preferred card" and wizard account with Avis. I will tell everyone I know in consulting about my experience. They pissed off the wrong person, trust me
I'd LOVE to be party to a class action suit against these con artists! Just let me know!
