I purchased a 2004 Toyota Corolla S from Team Toyota in Langhorne, PA on August 8. On August 15, I tried to open the sunroof and the mechanism seemed to move but the glass did not. I decided to go directly to the dealer to have it fixed. I drove about a mile down the rode and the sunroof blew out of the car, landed behind the car and shattered into bits. This almost caused an accident as there were a string of cars behind me.
When I got to the dealer, I explained the problem (not hard to see!) and they said they would contact the Toyota Regional Office on Monday and see what action they would take. On Monday, August 18, I was told (I had to call them!!!) that before the car had left the manufacturing plant, the epoxy for the sunroof had not been applied. Team Toyota said they would fix the problem, check out the car and call me when it was ready to pick up.
Are you kidding me? The car had 197 miles on it when the sunroof flew out of the car. It was defective when it left the plant. Under Pennsylvania Lemon Law, 3 things must go wrong in the car before I can sue. Team Toyota should do the right thing and replace the car, this is the ethical solution. I am going to contact headquarters in Torrance, CA but I don't expect anything will change. Buyer beware.
