Complaint / Review
Waldorf MVA, Motor Vehicle Administration
Paid for title and never received it. Now they want additonal $20 for new title!

In October of I registered my vehicle at the Waldorf MVA and paid all of the necessary fees for my tags, title, etc. After a few weeks had passed, I called the customer service representative to check on the status of receiveing the title to my vehicle. The customer service representative verified my address and told me that the title was shipped to the correct address and to wait another week. The following week I called again and I was told that the postal service had not returned the title to the DMV and that the mailing address was correct and to wait another week to see if I receive it.

In November of I registered my second vehicle and I received the title in 1.5 weeks delivered in the mail. I decided that I need to visit the DMV and explain my situation. After laying out that I never received my title, the representative handed me a form to request another title and explained to me that I would have to pay $20 to receive a duplicate.

I explained to the representative that it is not fair that I should have to pay an additional $20 on top of the hundreds that I had already spent to register and title the vehicle in Maryland already. She explained that the title was mailed to the correct address, after asking for my license to verify my address, and that if the postal service could not deliver that piece of mail for any reason it would have been returned to the MVA. She then told me that because it was mailed to the correct address and was not returned that it was delivered to my house. And, if I need a second copy it would cost $20.

In my opinion, this is complete BS and I told the representative how I felt. It is now a possibility that someone in the state of Maryland has the title to my vehicle. I just hope they don't do anything illegal with it.

The moral of this long story is that after you pay for your title you need to pray that you actually receive it. What a racket.
