I received an UNSOLICITED coupon stating I could have a free oil change if I was a first-time customer (I was). When I took the coupon in and requested the oil change, I was told my car needed $600 or more of service, because it was leaking oil.
I paid for this service, but the charges INCLUDED the oil and oil filter and the charge for changing the oil. When I asked the company to refund the cost of the oil change ONLY, based on the free coupon, they refused.
I filed a report with the BBB, and the case was never resolved. The company states that it is against their policy to EVER refund a charge, regardless of the circumstances. The BBB asked me to resolve the case, and I refused. I felt I had been subjected to BAIT and SWITCH practices.
Shortly after the initial contact with Suburb Service, I took my car to Midas for inspection, and asked if my car needed service for "oil leaking all over the engine compartment" (the claim made by Suburb Service). At this point in time, no service had been done by Suburb, but was scheduled. Midas examined the car and told me that the slight amount of oil in the engine compartment was normal, and not a problem.
Since I was already scheduled for service with Suburb, I had the service done anyway. I was charged $600 for a simple "free" oil change, because I am not a car wizard. But I know enough to never take my car to Suburb Service again.
