Pep Boys - Manny, Moe & Jack
Auto Repairs

My car broke down on 11/4/08, took it to pep boys on 11/5/08 around 11am. I signed for diagnostic only. That evening i received a phone call stating what he thought it was, but he had a few further tests but the information would be to me that evening or the following day. I never received a phone call that evening, so I went into the location and video taped my vehicle disassembled not being worked on at that time I told Eric the customer service person at the desk that I do not want them to continue working on my vehicle, he assured me that they would not and they would give me a call the following day. I never received a call so I called them around 3pm. I spoke with A. Barron the service manager, who told me they had put articles on the vehicle, started it, and said I needed a new engine because there was a bent piston. I asked him how much I owed him and he told me $1,068. But could bring it down to $924. I said why would I pay you all for a vehicle that I did not authorize to be worked on and that I never signed off on. I went the following day 11/8/08 to the location and received a work order with my signature placed in the diagnostic box, but all the work they had done had been added to the box. I than professed that it was unfair, I did not ask for or authorize any work that would not get my car back running. The manager, A. Barron, than told me that with the bent piston that it would be $2350 to fix the vehicle properly. I again told him that they were not authorized to work on my vehicle at all, and that I wanted my vehicle returned to me in the condition I gave it to them, he told me the charge would be the same, so I filed a complaint with pep boys customer service and asked that the district manager contact me. I never received a phone call, so on 11/10/08 I filed two customer service complaints stating what happened and wished to speak to someone over that location. I never received a call from the district manager, instead I received another phone call from the service manager, alerting me that the price had not changed. On 11/11/08 I filed another customer service complaints asking that the district manager contact me so we could rectify the situation. He did not return my call. On 11/12/08 I filed a case with the state attorneys office and the better business bureau.
