Pep Boys
Incompetant men posing as mechanics, Charleston South Carolina

Well this horrible nightmare began about one year ago. I was attending college in Tallahassee, FL whereby I originally took my 1995 Honda Civic to a pep boys location to have some belts replaced. The tallahassee, Fl store replaced the fuel pump, serpentine belt and timing belt on my Honda.

A few months later I was still having trouble with my vehicle so I visited a pep boys location in Union city, Ga at that time my check engine light was coming on. At the Union City store I was charged for an unneccessary diagnostic and then told that I need to replace my radiator cap.

The next day I left town to visit family in Charleston, SC whereby I was still having problems with my vehicle. I took my car to a pep boys located on savannah hwy in Charleston, SC whereby I explained all of the previous visits to pepboys, previous problems and current concerns. The Charleston store evaluated my vehicle and informed that my coolant system had been installed wrong and this was a mistake made by the Tallahassee, FL store when they installed my new fuel pump. The Charleston store then preceded to reinstall the system for me free of charge.

Approximately six months later I was driving down the highway when some parts fell from my car and my car shutdown on me. A tow truck driver pullled over to assist me and informed me that my crank shaft pulley was missing now and that many of my belts were not connected. He then towed my car to the pep boys located in Union City Ga. The tow truck driver informed me that he was a mechanic as well and that from his knowledge the only way that my crank shaft pulley would come off was if it had been overtightened.

The Union City pep boys examined my engine and informed me that the crank shaft pulley had come off due to overtightening. I was told by a mechanic there and the tow driver that inorder for the previous work to be done on my belts and coolant system by the other two locations they would have had to remove the crankshaft pulley and put it back on.

Furthermore, in the process of them putting it back on they overtightened the bolt. The mechanic also informed me that the results of this mistake (my crankshaft pulley falling off) would not have happened instantly but over a little bit of time. The service manager at the union city store (Junior Robinson) then informed me that he would have my car sent to Honda to be further diagnosed and repaired because their store doesnt deal with engine damage.

I then asked what arrangements could be made for a rental car because I had to work on Monday and I work over 20 miles away. Junior Robinson told me that his district manager would have to approve it but the district manager was on vacation until Monday.

Over the next two weeks I went back and forth with Junior Robinson in order to get a claim started with the claims department. Junior Robinson was very uncooperative. After a week and a half Mr. Robinson informed me that it was the Charleston's store responsibility to file a claim.

I then called the Charleston store for resolution and spoke with the assistant manager. The assistant manager informed me that the service manager was on vacation and that he didnt even know how to put in a claim. When the service manager of Charleston store returned he informed me that the assistant manager hadnt told him anything and that "he was not paying for me a damn engine". I called Junior and asked for his assistance and he said he would put in the claim but he didnt.

I then started filing complaints with the 1800pepboys line whereby I was told a district manager would contact me in 24-48 hours. After another week passed and numerous complaints filed to speak with a district manager with no success, I filed a complaint to speak with the vice president over the district manager. After another week passed and numerous complaints filed to speak with a vice president with no success, I started calling the claim representative for the southern part of the Country, Becky, who informed me that she needed a claim to procede.

After Becky emailed and called Mr. Robinson for a week with no success, she suggested I contact Christine White in another departmen and explain to her the whole situation in hopes that she could start a claim on her end. After a month of continuous calls, complaints, and rental car fees, I still dont have a smidget of resolution to my problem. Nallley Honda in Union city, GA has my car and they estimated $3500.00 in repairs. My rental bill is now up to $1600.00 and no one at pep boys is trying to fix the problem that they have created.
