Pep Boys
459.00 Fee

I needed a headlight replaced and an oil change for my 2006 trailblazer. I brought the truck into Pep Boys to correct the problem. When I received the vehicle after the repair I drove home after stalling twice along the way. The next morning, my wife took the vehicle back to Pep Boys to get them to correct the issue as it was still stalling and idling very rough. She spoke to a service center desk employee about the issue and stated the vehicle was running perfectly fine when we brought the car in. Could they reset the vehicle's computer that they must have removed the battery cable while trying to work on the headlight on the drivers side. I noticed personally that when the mechanic was working on the truck that it took him a while to figure out how to remove the headlight and that he had removed a battery cable to try and get his tools in behind it to work on the headlight prior to realizing that the light comes off from the front of the vehicle.

He told my wife, sorry nothing we can do for you. We can't do that, take it to your dealer. Now the business has a sign in their waiting room that states, 100% service guarantee. If you aren't satisfied with our service, we will correct the problem or refund your money.

In the meantime, me being out of town and all, I was unable to take the vehicle to the dealer until Monday morning and I was the first person in line to get the computer reset as I could not continue driving the vehicle this way. The dealer said it would be 108.00 to reset the computer. Then after a short wait at the dealer I was called up. They told me a part that rund on the computer malfunctioned do to the car being driven with the computer issue I had due to the battery being disconnected and was now broken. That it would take about 3 hours to fix and would cost about 400.00 for the entire job. What could I do, I paid it. Even the mechanic stated and I quote "a lot of money to change a headlight huh?"

In the meantime, prior to Monday, I complained to the company through their website on the situation and was contacted Monday evening by Pep Boys assistant manager apoligizing for the issue and offering to refund my 59.00 payment to them. That's when I told them about the additional cost I had incurred and the asst. Mgr. Said he would have the store manager call me back at 5pm. The Manager contacts me and says again that they are sorry and that it shouldn't be a problem if I could share with him a copy of the bill so that he could investigate. So I brought him a copy of my bill at the dealership for the repairs. He stated that he was reviewing the repair online at how to do it himself and that the battery issue is unique to my type of vehicle. He said he would contact Chevy in the am to verify my data and get back to me. I get a call today and he tells me that his mechanic did not disconnect my battery and that they aren't liable. He also now isn't even giving me the initial 59.00 back for his service fee. Basically telling me too bad. That my truck must have been broken prior to bringing it to Pep Boys.

I tried contact the BBB but of course Pep Boys is not registered with them. Why should I get stuck paying 400.00 to Chevy and another 59.00 to Pep Boys for a service issue that Pep Boys caused by not being knowledgable on how to fix my vehicle? If they didn't know how to do the simple repair, they could have told me upfront that they couldn't do it and I would have taken it to the dealer and paid 65.00 to have it repaired.
