My husband's transmission (4 speed) was rebuilt (for $543.75) by Joe (the owner) of Transmission Rebuilders on Apr. 3 and installed into the vehicle, supposedly in good working order and it was driven away by my husband at 7:00 PM. My husband drove his van for one and a half days and Thursday morning appro. 10:15 AM (Apr. 5) he was driving down the street and went to change gears (into 3rd, an a loud explosion (BAM!) happened and the transmission tore all apart and was undrivable. He had to be push off a busy street into a parking lot. I called the owner (right away, he put blame on the clutch pedal) and he sent a tow truck to tow him in. Upon inspection of the transmission at the place of business the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears had been destroyed.
By the way, there was NOTHING wrong with the clutch pedal. The owner now puts blame on the shifter. Then he said he didn't know what was wrong with it and would have to take it to Los Angeles the next day, which he supposedly did? And to call back at noon.
We called, he wasn't in and my husband went to the place of business to speak to the owner and NOW he's blaming my husband for the way he drove (shifted) the van, which he has been driving this van with a 4 speed in it for over 12 years and we have driven it everywhere possible and has always been very reliable until now. He says he CAN fix the transmission, but now is REFUSING to fix it and won't return my husband's money and said *take me to court*!! Why should we have too? The transmission was NOT fixed properly from the beginning and we were giving him the opportunity to fix it right and said he would, but today REFUSES, with excuses of blame to my husband.
He called the police on us, saying we were IRATE customers. Who wouldn't be when you're being RIPPED OFF! And believe me I wasn't anywhere near as IRATE as I normally can be! Actually *I* was very calm!
This man only replaced two parts, is that rebuilding a transmission? Gear 2 and the shaft
without replacing the synchronizer and now he is saying the whole problem is the plate (shift cover) of the transmission.By looking at this plate you can tell the damage is NOT recent and the owner says it is. And the damage on the plate is the cause of all the problem. This man has my husband's money for a tore up transmission and not willing to fix it right and now my husband can't afford to have someone else try and fix it because we don't have to money to do it.
The whole bottom line here is. The man didn't fix the transmission right in the first place and tried to get away with replacing as few parts as he could and hoped it would work and when it backfired on him then he wants to place blame on 4 different things, BUT himself! He knows he has done wrong and doesn't want to make it right, because of his neglect (unprofessionalism) he was going to have to pay out of his own pocket to replace the parts that had been replaced (now damaged again) and the parts NOT replaced, that should have been, and not be able to charge us anymore more money. So, now my husband has to be without his van or a transmsission until we can afford to have someone else repair (or wait until we can take him to court) the damage JOE caused and won't own up too. This is NOT fair! We've known and trusted and believed in this man for years. He has done work on my husband's van many times, clutch work, adjustments and etc. And to be treated like this is deplorable. Please help! Thank You, Marsha Doss
