Faulty work on Transmission

We hauled our 1994 Dodge Spirit to Pro Trans Plus transmission so Jeff could check it out since it was not shifting gears, he was to check it and call us to tell us what was wrong with it, since we live in Colorado Springs we dropped off and we going to wait for his call. He never opened it up in our presence so it is not true that we watched as he disassembled it and showed us the damaged parts. He never called us to tell us what was wrong. He never told us about the convertor needing to be replaced. We confided in him knowing he was a good mechanic and he knew what needed to be done to have the car running. The transmission in the car was not a junk yard transmission it was in the car when we bought it. We hauled in on a Monday and he called us on a thursday that it was ready to be picked up. He told us it was going to be $700.00 dollars. We told him we did not have the money but that we were going to borrow money from friends. We came up with $500.00 and since he had done jobs for us before and knew who we were we told him we were going to take a trip to Texas where had some jobs lined up to do since he had no work here. So we left. Jeff states that we took the car in shortly after which we did because my husband had gone in to repair a broken rear main seal in a place that had nothing to do with the transmission he only dropped the transmission to work on the seal, after that the car was driving ok except for the steering wheel not being aligned Jeff found out what my husband had done wrong a fixed it for an additional charge. After that the car war running great. We went to Texas and came back with no problems two months later. Then in August, three and a half months later the car was not driving right I called Jeff and he said to take it in so he can have a look at it. We left it and he called us days later saying he was not going to even looking at it until we paid him $216.00 which was the original balance owed i went 2 weeks later to pay him and then was he took the transmission done and opened it up and saw what was wrong. He told me that if we had got a new torque convertor in we would not have this problem. I told him why he did not not do it and he said that my husband told him we could not afford to pay $99 dollars for a new one. He never talked to my husband about that, he just went ahead and fixed it. To get it running. After i paid him the remaining balance, he told me he was not going to fix it or put the transmission in the car until I paid him $700.00 dollars. The transmission is still in the trunk of the car in pieces we had to rent a car dolley to remove it from his work place. Our mistake was thinking that he was going to fix the car by getting the parts needed and confiding in him to do what was needed. We did pay the ramaining fee late, but due to the economic situation we are in it was not possible to pay him on time. Part of what Jeff is saying is true but not all of it is.
