In January my husband and I went to Power Dodge on Bell Rd to look at a 2005 Jeep Wrangler that was advertised in the paper. I had worked a night shift and so my husband met me at the dealership in the morning. We were met by a salesman named Jeff who showed us two 2005 Jeeps that were the advertised price.
We noticed that the two Jeeps he showed us did not have the Jeep X logo as advertised. He assured us that they were Jeep X and that the sticker had just been left off. Having never bought anything but a Ford, we assumed it was true. We decided to buy the red 2005 Jeep wrangler and were escorted into the building to do the necessary paperwork. That is where the nightmare begins.
First of all, my husband had a meeting he needed to be at but we were assured that it would not take long and so we agreed to stay and fill out the paperwork. Next the finance guy comes out with some outrageous interest rate... We weren't going for it... We had just bought a 2006 F150 crew cab two weeks prior with and awesome interest rate!!! A 42K truck! Anyway, he comes back with a better but not good interest rate and we decide to just go with it.
Next we are asked about extended warranty... Do we want it. We decided we did. There were several different choices and we chose the basic drive train warranty. The papers were signed in haste and we left. I went home to sleep and my husband went to his meeting. When I woke up that evening I looked at the papers and discovered that we were given warranties that we didn't want! Paint coverage warranty, $5K toward a new car if my Jeep was stolen in 5 years! I didn't want that! I immediately called the finance manager and left a message that the paperwork showed we bought coverages that we didn't want and we wanted that remedied. I called and left messages for 3 DAYS and he never called me back until I finally said I was going to put a stop payment on the down payment check if someone didn't call me back. (Which by the way, they were supposed to hold for 5 days.) I got a message from him at that point that basically said, too bad the deal is done, you have the coverages. He said he had already sent in the paperwork and there was no way to undo it now.
Next I called the finance manager. We played phone tag for a couple of days. When I fainally got him on the phone I told him what had happened and he said the same thing, the deal is done, you have the coverage and we can't take it off. I told him I should not have to pay the down payment because the coverages I didn't want amounted to about the same as my down payment. He said too bad. I also told him that our salesman, Jeff, told us we were buying a Jeep X and it wasn't. (The only difference was we didn't have a center locking console) He told us he would order us one and get it to us.
In the mean time, the dealership cashed my downpayment check. Early. I guess since Ihad said if I didn't get a return phone call I would put a stop payment on it. Well it bounced. (The money wasn't in there because they were supposed to hold it!) I waited for the check to be redeposited and it never was.in the meantime I have left messages for the general manager explaining my problem and that I don't feel I need to pay the down payment since I was sold something I didn't even want and the amounts anre the same.
I don't hear anything for MONTHS! Then out of the blue I get a certified letter saying I am being sued for the NSF check plus fees by Bell Dodge dba Power Chrysler Jeep Dodge! I called the dealership and spoke with people in finance and left a message for the general manager that that was bull. They could have redeposited that check at anytime and it was good. Also I had assumed that since I hadn't heard anything elso from them again after letting them know that I felt I shouldn't have to pay the down payment, and the check was never sent back thru, I thought it was a done deal. I was a happy customer, they had sold me a Jeep. Everyone was satisfied. But NO! I told the finance department in June that they could redeposit the check if they were going to insist that I pay the down payment even though I had issues with their finance department... They didn't need to sue. I was told they would take care of it.
In November/December I get another Certified letter saying that I have 40 days to respond or my wages will be garnished for double the amount of the check!!! Then the NEXT DAY my checking account was garnished in the amount of the check plus fees. There is still a balance that will be garnished via my wages.
Basically we got screwed hard. The salesman was clueless. We never did get the center locking console he was supposed to get us and I don't think he even works there anymore. We were sold a bunch of warranty coverages we didn't want, thought we had worked it out with the dealership and then get sued and garnished for double the amount! Needless to say, we will never buy anything from Bell Dodge or Power Chrysler Jeep Dodge or any other company associated with that company. The way this was handled was HORRIBLE.
Oh... One other thing. We had my Jeep up there two other times within a couple of weeks to have a rattling noise fixed. They couldn't fix it. Finally I took it to a Jeep dealer closer to my house that had it fixed in two hours. Power Chrysler Jeep Dodge even has a terrible service department!
