I recently bought a Dodge Grand Caravan at the local Dodge dealership in Lubbock Texas. They showed me a 2002 van that was a demo and said that the boss would make me a real good deal on it.
While signing the rebate forms I looked at the paper work and realized that they were charging me the MSRP for this vehicle so I told them I refuse to sign anything else until they told me how much of a discount they were going to give me on a demo with 4300 miles on it.
The Business Manager told me he couldn't change the price of the vehicle but what he could do is give me a 7yr/100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty plus credit life and credit disablity for free the total amount of the freebies was $3770.00 so of course I took it.
Before I signed the paper work I told the mgr, hey this is listed like I'm paying for it - the freebies - and he said no we have to list them like that because Chrysler is financing you and thats what they require so I said then tell me how looking at this paper do I know I'm getting the options for free and not paying for them and he said did your car payment change I said no and he said well then your not paying for them.
About a week later I started crunching numbers and figured out I was paying for the options and that I had just paid full price for a demo. They had already added the price of the options in before they sold me the vehicle. I went to the mgr he denied ever giving me the option for free. I ask for a new vehicle with less than 30 mile and with the exact same features as the van I had purchased and was told its to late the paper work had already been sent.
I asked for added options to my van to equal the amount of the freebies I was suppose to get and all that I could get after several vists to the dealership and finally speaking with the general mgr was a $1400 rear seat vhs player, I wanted a rear seat dvd and a cd player.
I still feel like I got ripped off. I caught the business mgr in so many lies it was pitiful. I hope this dealership doesnt rip anyone else off. You know I was really excited about buying a new vehicle but all of this bickering, haggeling and lying has really turned me off.
The options I was charged for I asked the dealership to take off since I never agreed to pay for them and they were offered to me for free and the business mgr said he couldnt do that because the paper work had already gone in.
I spoke with chyrsler financial and they told me so what alot of paper work is sent in that doesnt mean they cant take it off so I emailed and sent a letter by certified mail to the business mgr with the ladys name that I spoke with at chyrsler financial and they finally agreed to take the charges off. I dont know if they really did or not I havent received any paper work on it yet.
