A few years ago I decided to purchase a car from JD Byrider. I had heard not so good things about the company, that the cars they sold were junk, but at the time I was young and naive and thought 'Oh, just because a few people had bad luck doesn't mean I will.' Apparently I thought I was invincible or something... As most of us do in our younger, inexperienced years.
Well, I got there, did some required paperwork and such, and I found a nice little Nissan Sentra (I think it was a 95 or 96). It had a cd player, a moon roof and seemed really clean. I took it for a test drive and I was like...'Oh yeah, I want this car', as I had never owned one with a cd player or moon roof before.
Well, to make a long story shorter, I bought the over-priced car (don't remember exactly how much I payed for it but I know it was double or triple what the Blue Book value was). I had the car for only a few months, and in that time every thing after another went wrong with it. I remember paying $900 on one repair visit. I struggled with making my car payments due to all the repair payments I was having to make. Then not long after the last repair was done, my alternator died. That's when I finally said "Screw it!" and I voluntarily surrendered that piece of junk. Of course they informed me that a surrender is basically the same thing as a repo on my credit and that I was still obligated to pay the car off.
Here I am, 2 or 3 years later, still making payments on that hunk of junk. I was lucky enough to have a company contact me and reduce my remaining balance as long as I agreed to make a monthly payment on time until the reduced balance was payed off. They lowered my balance from around $7,000 to around $3000 and I have been making monthly payments of $50 since. After I get the reduced balance payed off it will reflect that the balance was paid in full on my credit.
I had talked with several (not just one or two) people who have had the same experience with a JD Byrider car. The cars they sell are DANGEROUS, OVER-PRICED and LEMONS.
If you are considering buying from JD Byrider, please take my (and other people's here) advice and DON'T DO IT! Spare yourself the money that could be used on a much better, safer and reliable vehicle. Look in the paper for used cars, ask friends, family, aquaintances, co-workers if they know anyone who is selling a car. Just don't get yourself wound up in the JD Byrider/CNAC nightmare.
I am amazed JD Byrider is still in business after all the complaints they've received. They continue to sell lemon after lemon at outrageous prices to people desparate to have a vehicle and I bet they laugh every time a new customer has signed a new contract... Knowing they are a company that thrives on ripping people off. But to them, hey, what does it matter? It's more money in their pockets.
