First of all Youngstown FYDA is just the tip of the problem here. It begins with the actual dealership which is FYDA of Columbus, OH which owns the following: FYDA of Pittsburgh, PA (Cannonsburg, PA), FYDA of Erie, PA, and FYDA of Youngstown, OH. Not to mention the Selectruck Program, Freightliner, and Dahmler/Chrysler Financing.
I purchased a 1999 Freightliner Classic on 9/03 on the Selectruck Program from FYDA, Erie, PA. I thought it was a great program at first.
The program advertised reconditioned trucks, great financing for first time buyers, had an accounting program included, 101 point inspection check, 2 year/200,000 mile warranty which I thought was a good deal.
The truck has been a nightmare since I purchased it.
First I was unable to shift gears properly (thought it was just me) due to a air leak, didn't pass DOT inspection when I took it to my Company I leased on with, then a 5 days later the alternator, two weeks later seals were leaking, clutch, lights (the wires were spliced which caused the lights to continually short out), 3 weeks later steer tires were out of round (told that it was my fault), drive tires were recaps (when I complained about drive tires I was the told that the tires would at least last a year or more,), injectors, rebuilt engine, air exchange (did not solve the problem), turbo lost pressure and as time went on it progressively got worse.
Amazingly, almost nothing was covered by this wonderful warranty.
Youngstown, OH Freightliner was the last straw. They did unauthorized repairs, I feel that the repairs weren't needed.
The truck was taken in for a turbo which had a loss of power.
Also, the length of time that they had my truck in their facility was ridiculous.
After almost 3 weeks in FYDA Youngstown, OH shop, Selectrucks call to say that they will help me providing I get my payment up to date, however, I had just spent about $9,000 in repairs the previous month, thus I had been down and no income. I was 1 payment behind, (another coming due) no big deal, I could catch up but with the delay in FYDA Youngstown, OH, it soon became 2 then 3, it was too late.
My lease company would not assist me with the repairs due to the fact that it must be authorized prior to the onstart of the repairs.
I received a call from FYDA saying that they test drove the truck and wanted authorization to adjust the clutch. When questioned how could he drive a truck that was just in pieces just 2 days prior and who authorized the repairs. I was informed that the truck had been repaired and to get with Terry Byers. I had been dealing with this service writer from the beginning. When asked who authorized the repairs, Terry replied "no one that it needed to be repaired."
What it came down to was I had a truck which I could not drive unless I paid for the unauthorized repairs, or have the truck reoverhauled according to Selectruck, come up with now 2 payments almost 3 after I have been off for over a month waiting for them to decide if they would assist me in the repairs.
At this point there was no way I could come up with the money which caused me to loose the truck after investing $30,000 plus in 20 months to get this truck up to par. And it still had major issues.
Also, Dahmler/Chrysler never reported my excellent credit standings with them but they did report the negative.
This episode has ruined my credit history and my good character, caused undue hardship on my family not to mention my health.
I was taken advantage of and I hope this nightmare never happens to you.
I am now seeking legal council to pursue this matter in the courts.
