Monro Muffler & Brakes/Speedy Auto
Ripoff: Stereo stolen when they were fixing my car!

Originally my partner took my car to Monro Muffler/Brakes in Alliance, OH where he works, and had just under $1,000.00 of repairs done (needed all new brakes in front and back). When I drove the car that evening the brakes were squishy so I contacted Monro and they said it would take a few days for them to firm up; not knowing much about brakes I believed them. A few days later the brakes actually got worse so I decided to take them to a local Monro. Well Monro and Speedy are the same company and so I took my car to the local Speedy Auto.

When I dropped my car off I handed the mechanic my keys; which he gave to a younfer mechanic who immediately took my car out for a test ride. My partner and I then left and they said they would call as soon as they knew anything. Two hours later I got a call that there was air in my brake lines and they had fixed the problem. I told them my partner was at a meeting and I would be there around 6pm..."No Problem" I was told. I then asked since it would be there for another 5 hours if they would do an oil change... Once again "No Problem."

My partner and I returned to Speedy at 6PM, the attendant was very nice, handed me my keys and said "yer all set." For a second I thought "wow they gave me the oil change free because they messed up in the first place." So I asked the guy why there was no charge for the oil change... He said because they didn't do one... Mind you there was only one other car there. So a bit peturbed I went to go leave. When I went to unlock my car... It was already unlocked. Which is odd because I always lock my car doors. So I sat in my car and went to go start it when I noticed my stereo had been removed! When I went to get out of the car I also noticed that my arm console was broken (which is where I kept my faceplate... Out of sight).

I immediately went back in and told the mechanic what happened... He called me a liar and said there was never a stereo in there! So I replayed the events of the day... Letting him know that his younger attendant test drove it... And that he was not the first person to be in the car. So the next day the manager contacted me (because I had already filed a police report AND contacted their 1800 #). The manager made it sound like he suspected the younger mechanic of stealing it... A few days later I was contacted by Monro/Speedy's insurance company (Travelers Insurance) who were EXTREMELY rude and basically called me a liar! Eventually my claim was denied due to insufficient evidence and the fact it was the employees word against mine! They contacted the police detective who was in charge of my case and he was just as rude to me; he called me dumb for leaving my faceplate HIDDEN in my arm rest of a LOCKED car. So needless to say I will NEVER go to a Monro or Speedy... Not because my $275 stereo was stolen while in their posession... Simply because they did crappy work from the beginning, they stole my car stereo, and then tried to treat me like some scam artist!

So the next time you leave your car at a shop... Make sure you tell the attendant there is a stereo in it... Take your faceplate even if it is locked up... And stay there no matter how long it takes. Especially if you are going to a Monro or Speedy Service center!!
