Before I tell you this whole horrible story, I beg you!!! Please do not buy a car from Bill Heard Chevrolet. Please do not reward these bunch of slimy, lying through their teeths bunch of low life scum suckers car salesman with your business. They do not care about you, they only want to take advantage of you and screw you out of money.
December 30 - My husband and I were searching for a used 2001 Honda Accord with decent mileage for our son. We found one on the internet for sale at Bill Heard Chevrolet, Buford, Georgia location. We called for information on it. We were reluctant to go look at the vehicle after recently hearing about their legal problems with the State of Georgia and subsequent fine (over $180,000).
I was told the car was still availabe, the internet price was $11,500. As I was looking at other vehicles the salesman called me back and told me that the price was now $10,250.00. Of course we were excited and felt that we should look at the car.
We went up to the dealership and after carefully examining the car (it was in excellent condition) we said let's do the deal.
Then the negative reputation of Bill Heard Chevrolet began to be revealed. (Paul Daggett) the salesman is writing the price up and suddenly the price is now $400 higher. We are told that every dealer charges this "document preparation fee". We say that is untrue as we had purchased a Honda accord from another Chevrolet dealership several months ago and not paid it. So our savings of $1300 is now only $900.00. We attempt to leave and suddenly the finance manager is ready to finish the deal. We have been asking our salesman what interest rate we will get. We were truthful about the credit score (low 600's) however we are putting 20% down and know that we can obtain financing.
We are ushered back to the financing manager. (Will Green) He tell us that there is no way around the $400 fee. We feel "screwed." Then he say after looking at our credit our rate is 14.50. We say forget it. We get up to leave and he says "let me go talk to my manager".
He comes back and says "well my manager will give you a better rate" like we are getting a big favor and suddenly our rate is now 9.24%. Please note we had already been through the approval process at one dealership and been told that we could get a rate of 8.79% through a local bank.
We say "okay" we do like the car. We put the deposit on my dad's credit card (he gets free sky miles). We sign everything. The last form is a balement form (possibly my spelling is incorrect). It says if we can't get financing we will return the car or pay rent on it until we get financing. We never get a copy of anything we sign other than the bill of sale and financing contract.
Before shaking our hands, we are told that everything is done but that the financing has yet to be approved by the bank (GMAC) but it will be fine and we will be called by first thing in the morning, (I heard 9:05 am) that the deal is done with GMAC. We take the car home. Big mistake. Don't ever take the car until you know you have financing!!!
by 10:30 am dec. 31, we have heard nothing. We call and leave a message. No return phone call. At 10:45 we leave another message on the financing manager's phone. At 11:30 am we call back and actually get him. He does not know anything. He will call us right back and let us know what is going. We call at 12:30 and leave a message. At 1:00pm we have heard nothing. We call my dad and ask him to check with his credit card company. We are ready to put the whole deal on hold.
Okay, the next 5 hours of dealing with all this.By the time we get this all settled my husband describes the feeling as if he were molested!
My dad calls me back and says they have charged his credit card three times the deposit! They have run the deposit through three times!!! The credit card company says they can do nothing about this until the dealership removes the authorizations.
We call the dealership and can not get them, having to leave messages, my dad calls the finance manager and has to leave a message. He gets a hold of the salesman who is supposedly going right into the finance manager's office to handle this. Two hours later after I go over to my dad's house and do a conference call with the credit card company and explain that Bill Heard Chevrolet is giving us the run around, the extra charge for the deposit is removed (the two charges).
It is now 3:00 pm. We still have not heard anything that our loan is done. My husband, normally calm and cool has decided that we are taking the car back. Additionally I have called another number off the internet site for vehicle financing and been told that it only takes several minutes to get approved even if there is a question from the automated system.
I then call another number for GMAC who we currently have financing through and am told that they can not give me the phone number of the office that Bill Heard is dealing with but that office was open and working until 3Pm. (We are later told that there was no one in the GMAC office by the finance manager and thats why he cant get an answer). At this point we have lost it.
We are now back at the dealership with the vehicle. The salesman tell us that GMAC has turned us down. We do not believe it. We tell them we want to tear the deal up!!! We are sitting up front but then they move us back to an office out of the way (we believe to keep us from influencing any other poor uninformed consumers of their shadiness!!!) Suddenly another manager comes out of the wood work. He is sorry about everything. We explain that we feel like we have been given the run around! All we ever wanted was honesty.
Oh I could go on. We finally got them to tear the deal up, left the car (first making them check the car over to see that it was in the same shape when we drove it off the lot)!
Again i implore you!!! Please do not buy a car from these thugs!
