Fairway Chevrolet
Uses yo-yo sales technique to rip off the unsuspecting

On 3/31 I went to Fairway Chevrolet to purchase a full size pickup. I was told that I would not qualify for the advertised rebates - putting the truck out of my price range. My salesperson Kevin Hopkins pointed me in the direction of a 2004 blazer that "could" be in my price range.

With $2500.00 in rebates & 4.9% financing I could swing the deal. I signed on the dotted line & drove back to Arizona. Within the next 2 weeks I was bombarded with requests for personal information from the salesperson. I complied. On the 12th day I was told that everything was fine on my financing.

On the 13th day I was told that they wanted to overnight the licensing paperwork to me. I told them that I was in Las vegas & I would swing in & pick them up. When I got there, I was told that there was a problem again & that they had a new contract to sign.

I was taken to the finance office where I was asked to sign the new contract. When I said that I would not sign for 7.03% financing all hell broke loose.

The Finance man and Kevin Hopkins started shouting at me, I asked them to bring me my original vehicle so that I could leave, the salesman left. I asked finance guy to call a manager for me he told me "no" and said "your not getting your truck back - I'll make the first contract work" in a rude voice. Then acted like he was going to shut the door. (Being a woman there alone I was not comfortable with this).

I got out the door & asked the man in the next office to call a manager to help me because the other man was not and he was being a "punk". The Finance guy came out of his office screaming at me to get out of his dealership.

By this time I was very shaken & just wanted to leave. A manager came out & started to get on me, so I told him that he needed to bring my truck around so that I could leave.

More pressure tactics and the good cop/bad cop tactics ensued. Finally I told him that I was not going to sign a new contract (even thought explained the new contract like I was mentally challenged) and I wanted to leave. He said that he would have my truck brought around.

Then out comes Sheldon Feddy, the General Sales Manager. He stood in the middle of the dealership yelling at me so that everyone there was turning around to see what was going on. He said that I was backing out of a signed sales contract & that it was against the law.

I called my boyfriend and asked him to talk to Mr. Feddy and have him get my truck back as I was crying at this point and just wanted to get out of there. After hanging up the phone he shouted that there was no legal reason that he should have to do it, but that he was having my truck brought around.

After over 2 hours of being yelled at, harrassed, insulted, and unable to leave, they finally brought me my truck.

Since leaving the dealership I have become aware through newspaper & television that this sort of thing happens often to single women, African-Americans & people with imperfect credit.
