We were given a certificate as a gift from a friend from West Bend who had won it a while back. This $50 certificate was good for dining at TJ Aliotas on Hampton Rd.in Milwaukee. The certificate stated it was good until 10/21/06 and had the conditions that it couldn't be used on Fridays or holidays. This was the only day me and my husband had matching schedules enough to go out for dinner. We drove a long ways up to Hampton Ave on the East side (not an easy commute for us thru downtown construction). When we get there, a waitress came up to us and we asked her right away if we could use the certificate. She got really rude and snotty to us and told us absolutely not it was a "Holiday", we asked her what "Holiday" she was referring to and she told us "Sweetest Day", We flat out told her that is NOT an official holiday, it is not recognized by the government (No post offices ever shut down or government offices of any kind), the only places that "recoginize" that as an official holiday are FLORISTS and JEWELERS since it's mainly a money making holiday, it would sort of be like saying "Secretary's Day" is an official government-sactioned holiday.
It's a bunch of crap and nothing more than a LAME ASS excuse not to honor the $50 certificate, and there was no reason for her to be a nasty grouch about it either. We were so angry that we traveled so far to be treated so rudely that we tore up the certificate and threw it in front of their establishment. I later called TJ Aliotas and asked for a manager so I could complain about our treatment, lo and behold the same person who was rude to us and told us they would not accept the certificate was also the MANAGER AND OWNER of the place! She said her name was Kathleen.
I hope WISN (the radio station that gave the certificate out) doesn't do any more business with this dumpy hole in the wall in the wall. It was a pathetic excuse for a restaurant anyways, just a small dumpy place in a "sports bar" which seemed to be their main business. And apparently this trashy "waitress" runs the whole affair and claimed she was "part of the Aliota family".
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! I doubt they'll be in business much longer acting like that! DO NOT GO TO THIS DUMPY PLACE!
(BTW, WISN was nice enough to replace our certificate for a wonderful DIFFERENT restaurant along the scenic Milwaukee River and we had a wonderful time there!)
