In July, I purchased a gift certificate for my little sister's birthday for $40 at XOXO Salon in Cardiff, CA. When my sister went to use the certificate, she found that the salon was no longer in business. She said that she called the phone number listed on the certificate many times, but never recieved a phone call back.
Upon my calling today, I recieved a call back from the owner, Eileen Tipton, who first claimed that she would be happy to honor the certificate, and that she had never recieved any calls from my sister. I asked if she was accusing my sister of lying about it, and she agreed.
I told her I was not suprised that her business went under, as she should never accuse a client of lying but always give them the benefit of the doubt. At this, I told her I would have my sister contact her to set an appoitment and said goodbye. Ms. Tipton called me back minutes later to say that since the gift certificate was over 6 months old, she would not be honoring it after all.
I can't find an expiration date anywhere on the certificate. And her business went under in August, one month after I purchased the certificate.
