Sharing of Social Security Number and Income for Marketing

Be aware that Capital One shares your social security number, income and ALL debt information to others for MARKETING purposes. I called and asked why they shared the social security numbers as I was quite sure that social security is JUST for that and was told "because they can " Can anyone say open to identity theft or invasion of privacy???
