May - behind two months on mortgage, cold call from a fella named Shawn, somewhere in south Florida pimping a *non profit* program for Freedom Legal Plans, claiming 60 days to investigating into fraudulent mortgage and if not a bad mortgage, a decent modification to a rate between 2.0 and 4 - again within 60 days.
Their website was well designed. I searched for complaints on them with the BBB and did not find any. They claimed to be part of the *hope* network with affiliated law firms all over the country and so we signed up a week later. They said they would give us the discounted rate due to disability status so our monthly rate was 599.
We then had to go through the original purchase mortgage, a self induced refinance and the *attaboy* pat on the back stimulus rate reduction paperwork refi offered by the mortgage company and send that. All our banking information and wait. It took us quite a while to get all three sets of paperwork together, get them copied (no way was I sending originals) and have everything they requested sent to both freedom legal and Litvins.
The Forensic audit took longer than claimed (3 months) but we did get a document (via email in pdf format) that insinuated 7 errors and we were told that our case was actionable but they would also continue to negotiate a modification. Also, they only did the audit on the last refi, not the other two I had to send.
In the mean time, our property insurance was canceled because the servicing grunts for the mortgage company (loan care) issued a pending forclosure notice and we could not contract for new insurance with this pending crap looming.
Each and every month they required updated bank statements, we were put off by the law firm (Litvin Torrens in Miami) and our contact at freedom legal, which became frontier legal, Shelby Brand, kept assuring us things were moving along as expected, and that the courts were so backlogged that getting on a docket was the challenge.
April - loan care, not our mortgage company served forclosure papers - which finally kicked Litvin Torrens into action.
They said they would appear in court for us and we were not required to be there (and not invited either) and they would file a continuance and it could take another YEAR to settle.
June.. Litvins FINALLY said the bank was ready to negotiate. One more bank statement. Then in July we were told that we did not qualify for a HAMP reduction, because the mortgage company didn't participate in the program.
End of July, a verbal offer is made to pick up where we left off before contracting freedom legal "no harm no foul"... With a loan modification. Also, we were then told, after a year of sweating it out, that our case was not actionable. WTH???
We started calling them more often after that. Unhappy to say the least.
Finally. Mid September, the paper work arrives for the modification and it's NOT the offer made over the phone. The life of the loan starts over AND they tacked on 30K (familiar number to the other posts) and we have 5 days to sign. So far we have not... And it's been 9 days.
We have been trying to contact our *new* account manager, Mark Wing for a week now and he won't call back - the last call with Litvin Torrens assured us that this modification was what they informed us of and they had no *notes* as to the pick up where we left off no harm no foul offer and offered no valid reason to both extend the mortgage life AND up the principal.
We have paid over 9K to Frontier legal company as as of today, their phones are no longer working (as of this morning it returns that speedy busy sounding signal. All day) and the website won't load.
They've done this to a 100% disabled veteran, living on a fixed income and so far, we have not signed this new modification because they won't return our calls.
BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY unless you have 30K or more to flush down the toilet.
