Someone used my name and a different to open an account with Fingerhut and never paid their bill. I found the account when I got a bad credit report while trying to buy a car. I reported the fraud to Fingerhut and they said they would sent out an investigation package. They never sent the package.
Fingerhut used the information I provided to them in my fraud report to "verify" that this was my account. The merchandise was shipped to Los Angeles, and I have never lived in Los Angeles. They have never proved that this account was mine because it is not. Yet they have the power to report it against my credit. As a result of this fraud and their deliberate refusal to correct the problem, I was forced to pay the debt in order to close a new home home, I paid 13% interest when everyone else paid 5%, I had to have a co-signer on my car, and I have been denied credit.
There were 3 other fraudulent accounts opened at the same time as Fingerhut, even requesting utilities at the Los Angeles address. The Federal Trade Commission has a special site for cable/phone/utilities fraud and I reported those account to the FTC. But no one seems to be able to help me with Fingerhut. They are criminals. And I even had to pay the account, and they STILL won't remove it from my credit report - 4 years later!!! Someone please help. Attorney referals? Anything!
